About Us

La Higuera S.A. is a family company that grows, packs and exports their own fruit. Six generations of farmers in the Chilean countryside have transmitted their knowledge and expertise gained throughout years.

In 1953, Jorge Covarrubias Lyon, founder of La Higuera, starts exporting fresh fruit, which turns him into one of the pioneer exporters of grapes in Chile. Since then, the Covarrubias family has managed the farm and exporting company, leading La Higuera to produce and process more than 500.000 boxes of premium fresh quality fruit among the year that are sold in multiple markets around the world.

We are in the North extreme of the Aconcagua valley, with a privileged climate that favors the production of several species such as peaches, nectarines, plums, table grape, clementines, mandarines, grapefruit, avocados, pomegranates and figs. Due to the location of our farm, we are able to produce early, high quality fresh fruit.

Our production is concentrated in our fields of the “La Higuera” area, in Santa María. Their proximity to the selection, packing and cold-storage facilities enable us to harvest the fruit when it has reached its optimum maturity state, ensuring excellent fruit with unparalleled taste.

La Higuera states for our location, which was named after the leafy tree from which early figs and figs are obtained, and that grows next to the irrigation canals and streams of the area. Only in our country two fruits, figs in March and early figs in December, are produced by this tree in a year.

Environmental responsibility

We have built solar plants in several location around our farms, which produce about 2mm KWh yearly. As La Higuera, we consume around 2,5mm KWh every year, so more than 80% of the energy we consume, comes from clean energy produce in our own fields.
